Memories Vs Storage

Memory :-

Memory refers to the space which is occupied by the RAM for processing of the different types of software’s (as they are system software or application software) over it where as it is also called as the system integrated circuit through which a system can easily work or process their data.

Types of Memory :-

There are basically two types of memory which are categorised in a computer system ,they are:

1) Primary memory  

2) Secondary memory

1. Primary memory

It is a type of volatile memory in which the data is stored temporarily until the software’s is accessed or processed, it is the memory which exist only when a power supply is connected to the device or system. It is also called main memory.

Example : SRAM( Static Random Access Memory ), DRAM( Dynamic Random Access Memory ), etc.

2. Secondary memory

It is a type of non – volatile memory in which data is stored for a long period of time and can be executed at any time later, it is the memory which can exist even after power supply is off. Secondary memory can also be a external storage device.

Example : PROM( Programmable Read Only Memory ), EPROM(Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory) , Hard disk , floppy disk , etc.

Storage :-

Storage is said to be a physical space ( Rather is in GB or MB ) which can be externally connected to a device for storing media, software, games, etc of different volume. It can also be define  as a capacity of a device to store data.

Example :-  Floppy Disk , Hard disk , Magnetic tape, etc.

Note that Geop Byte is the highest memory measurement unit till now.
